Ok just an update. I cleaned the mirror like he did i put a towe in the sink because i didnt have a rack like him. I used some soap like he did and cleaned the mirror exactly like he did. My mirror was full of some wierd dried up sticky dew and crap. After i rinsed the mirror off it was super shiny again. Altho i noticed some small streak scratchs on on side of the mirror going down. Im not sure if its because i put my fingers on it. Or the mirror was like that when i got it 3 months ago.
However the mirror is super shiny now. I suggest using distilledwater afterwords tho. City water has clorine and stuff in it and after i set my mirror to dry i tried to get all the water spots off by dabbin a tissue on them but i have like 15 water spots on the mirror. So im going to use distilled water next time.
Thanks ive been thinking of cleaning my 10″ mirror. I looked down one day and saw crap all over it it looked like dust, but after taking it off it wasnt dust but in fact some smeary gunk thats looks alot like dust. I think its dew that collected with dust on the mirror and dried. Hopefully i wont damage my mirror by cleaning it in the sink like you did. Or id cry lol. I was thinking of submerging in it water with dawn, and letting it sit for while then rinse with distilled water.
Great instruction, thanks!I hope it doesn`t matter if the mirror is Pyrex, BK-7, Float or something similar.I gonna clean my mirror this week, i`m still excited.
dude, don`t u find it dangerous cleaning a telescope mirror?..`cause telescopes mirrors are covered with chemicals, and u can wash them off..?
bom o video…tenho um refletor de 350mm big mount
This is a good video. I recently purchased a second hand 10 inch dob and the mirror needs cleaned. Kind of nervous first time cleaning a mirror. Keep the good videos comin.
One more thanks. Great video. Now I feel more confident on cleaning the mirror of a second hand scope I just picked up. Smaller than this one, but I still didn’t want to destroy the mirror. And yes there are many anal opinions out there.
This is a good video…I tried to do the same but found that i couldn’t wash it in water (long story)So i got some nail polish remover and some cotton balls and they worked wonders. Totally cleaned the mirror and i can’t remember where i read ammonium is excellent for cleaning telescope mirrors. And what d’uno nail polish remover has ammonium in it
Hey thanks, I was going to clean my dusty, little, 10-year-old, 4.5″ mirror. I was imagining cleaning it just how you described but was not sure if I would destroy it or what. It would not be a huge deal if I did it’s only 114mm, but you have given me the confidence to proceed. So many people on the web are so anal and complex in describing how to clean a mirror. I like simple. Though, I think I will use distilled water for the final rinse as my tap water sucks.
Yes you can! You have to CAREFULLY!! pop the mirror out of the casing, then you will see screws underneath the glass. Remove the screws and the casing SHOULD come off. Check the base of it as well ( the part that mounts to the door) there may be a screw there as well. Good luck!!
Oxfam staff in Haiti is providing shovels and picks for local workers to clear rubble to search for trapped victims in the capital, Port-au-Prince. The international aid agency is also working to provide water by setting up water tanks in the city. Oxfam is flying water, sanitation, health, and shelter equipment to Santo Domingo to be carried overland to the quake zone. The agency also has stocks of goods and equipment in Panama on stand-by. An additional 17 Oxfam humanitarian response specialists arrived in Haiti today. “Our focus is clean water,” said Michael Delaney, director of humanitarian response at Oxfam America. “People can go ten days without food, but we can only go three days without water. Many of the water systems are broken down because of this tragedy.” Oxfam has had brief and erratic communications with members of its team in Haiti. Many have had their houses destroyed and are now having to sleep in the street. Some have lost family members. One Oxfam staff member was…

Anyone hear of that site mp3ify? I was told I could get all these videos as free mp3 music…anyone? Found it on google under mp3ify.
When you say "magnifying mirror", what comes to mind is a shaving mirror or perhaps the mirror used in an overhead-projector. These mirrors are extremely poor optical quality. For astronomy, you must have a precision ground mirror. If you can't find a used one cheap, then your best bet is to grind it yourself. Here are some links to do-it-yourself telescope building and mirror grinding.

I think that life is like a disease that will eventually eat up all of the universe. Maybe we where created by a far greater civilization that shot the seeds of life throughout the universe.

You all will be happy to know that the Clean played a series of sold out shows in New York last year. The crowd were of all ages – and the show I was at had Yo La Tengo sitting in the front row like teenagers watching the band! Timeless.
Great information

Er. Excuse me. 2nd ’scope. Maximum 45 x magnification with f/10 and 100mm aperture? Sorry? The only reason that “new” short focal length scopes have colour corrected objective lenses is because theres something wrong. IE: they’re so fast they wont focus all colours of the spectrum to one point. Resulting in nasty halos around bright objects. If you can’t get 25 x magnification per inch of aperture, don’t bother. Fast ’scopes are crap. The “old boys” knew their stuff.

My mind is always singing " Man In The Mirror" when I see this footage, or any footage of Michael now just before he passed.
we just happen to get our daughter her first one this past Christmas and the one we got would be perfect for him it is a Bushnell 150 power Astro/Terrestrial Telescope with Tripod It is super easy to use and it does not have all the weird gadgets to go on it we all love it and my 4 year old already takes it out to the back yard and looks through it all by herself. try looking on ebay for one thats where we got ours and with shipping it was less than 30$.

Well, when you wake up make your bed. Then start off by vacuuming your room. When your done, start taking the things you have on your floor by putting them where they belong.
so much room out in space,
but were stuck in a little ball between the earth and the moon, only probe robots got to mars and that kinda of stuff but humans cant make it past the moon, lol and the nearest star is like 4.1 to 4.5 light years , so it will take you 4 years to get there but you have to go at the speed of light, i am hoping that happens some time, we go there and see any living forms just like us or 100% different from us, it is really cool thinking about it.

SLOOH is awesome! Thanks for the video!
Completely false. Celestron has the best support in the industry. It is also the only vertically integrated company in the field with very well established supply chain. Lastly, NexStar SE series are the best computerized series and are (will be) well support for many years to come.
