It really depends on the storage density of the device upon which the file is stored. Look at the memory cards that are used in many devices now. Very small indeed. We used to store 2.5 megabytes on a 3.5 inch disk. Before that, we stored 360 kilobytes on a 5 inch disk. On hard drives and CD/DVD drives, the density will be affected by the rotation speed of the device. Your question about the thimble is roughly analogous to "how many balls of string would it take to reach the moon?" The answer is another question. How long is the string in one ball? A byte of data is made of bits. A bit is just the on/off state of something whether electrical, magnetic or physical. If the byte I am trying to store will be stored in electrical lights (eight of them) then the physical space occupied would likely approach one linear foot for one byte. On the other hand, the space taken up on a flash memory card would have to be measured with scientific instruments because it is so small. I'm sorry if this is not the straight forward answer that you wanted.
As far as I'm aware, Hubble is still the most powerful as it concentrates on directly imaging things, while Kepler detects wobbles around a star.
Hubble will be replaced sometime with the "James Webb Space Telescope"

Casual also can be construed as “easier”.
At present the expansion is accelerating, for reasons that are not understood.
In the past, the expansion went through a period of acceleration that both begain and ended for reasons that are not understood.
So: we don't know.
Oh my gosh….you can't look around you and SEE for yourself?
look at the sky at night. If you were in Hawaii or somewhere where the lights don't mute the sky…there are ZILLIONS of stars and galaxies you can see and be in awe of. I NEVER knew what the sky really looked like until we took the cruise to Hawaii and stayed there for two weeks. I could not stop looking at the sky.
There is much to learn about our universe. How can we possibly know the galaxies and different universes out there and what it holds. It is never ending and there is no way we can learn everything about it.
Our universe is unique….like many others. We have life but we would be so conceited to think we are the ONLY life there is. There HAS to be life out there…..somewhere. I don't know what shape or form it is…but there has to be other life.
We are babies in these universes….we have so much to learn and so much to catch up on.
Just the unknown is exciting enough….don't you think? We have such BRILLIANT people in this world that create and heal and succeed in all areas of life…and thanks to them we will continue to get only better.
I mean look at Edison and Marconi and others…without them we would not have the technology we have today. We needed THEIR contribution to this world to get where we are.
Look at our space program…..it is awesome and growing all the time. I hope we continue to keep it going and aren't afraid to take it farther. We NEED that. We need to get out there more..and farther and deeper….I hope my grand babies get to see some of the wonders out there…..more than I have seen.
I remember standing at school with a transistor radio held to my ear at recess listening to the first space shuttle ….WOW..could it be? We are out there?
Then in July of 1969..when we were in California…did we really set foot on the moon? YES WE DID…and it was even more awesome.
Then Mars…..
we've really landed spacecraft on Mars. NASA has accomplished six Martian landings to date.
Viking 1 (July 20, 1976)
Viking 2 (September 3, 1976)
Sojourner/Pathfinder (July 4, 1997)
Spirit (January 3, 2004)
Opportunity (January 24, 2004)
Phoenix (May 25, 2008)
the universe is HUGE….and we are just baby stepping through it.
What is NOT to be excited about.??????

“Searching for signatures of cosmic-scale archaeological artifacts such as Dyson spheres or Kardashev civilizations is an interesting alternative to conventional SETI. Uncovering such an artifact does not require the intentional transmission of a signal on the part of the original civilization. This type of search is called interstellar archaeology or sometimes cosmic archaeology. The detection of intelligence elsewhere in the Universe with interstellar archaeology or SETI would have broad implications for science. For example, the constraints of the anthropic principle would have to be loosened if a different type of intelligence was discovered elsewhere. A variety of interstellar archaeology signatures are discussed including non-natural planetary atmospheric constituents, stellar doping with isotopes of nuclear wastes, Dyson spheres, as well as signatures of stellar and galactic-scale engineering.”

The image projected at the focal plane will be 3 times larger in telescope A. Through the eyepiece, you will get identical images if you use an eyepiece in telescope B with 1/3 the focal length of the one in A.

All of the major telescope makers supply adapters for 35mm cameras (including DSLR's).
You will have to do a search and choose the telescope that suits your needs. Focal length, aperture, motorized mounts (or not).
There are Catadioptric, Reflectors and Refractors. Each design has its own strengths and weaknesses (whether optical quality, weight or cost)

If you are in the U.S. and west of the Mississippi, you might be able to see it with a telescope of at least 10" of aperture. NASA TV will be doing a live feed and most certainly have video clips after the event.
As for size of the debris cloud after the impact, its going to be be small, maybe 20 – 30 miles on a side (don't forget, the moon is about 250,000 miles away). The crater it'll impact is something like 50 miles in diameter, but since its near the moon's south pole, its profile is going to be foreshortened.

You have a wide variety of telescopes to choose from for under $1,000, however, you have a wider variety if you buy a used telescope.
You want a reputable brand such as Meade, Orion, Celestron, Takahashi, TeleVue, TEC and the likes. The telescope must have a stable mount and have tracking abilities. Goto isn't needed though.
An equatorial mount is preferred for astrophotography but many Schmidt Cassegrains come standard on fork mounts. This is fine if you buy a wedge and a field de-rotator.
Most people are very well suited with 8" Schmidt Cassegrains. You can buy these used for under $1000, often with accessories, on places like and

InfoXenter has released the first screenshots for its upcoming Twitter application for the iPad, Twitepad. Twitter apps are one of the hottest categories in the App Store, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing some iPad-specific apps as we approach the Saturday release date. Apple started accepting submissions to the App Store about 10 days ago, and Twitepad will be available at launch. The biggest difference between the Twitter clients for the iPad and the iPhone is device screen size. This opens up lots of opportunities for developers. On a smaller screen, utilizing space efficiently becomes hugely important. With the iPad, the challenge will be how to best use the excess space. Twitepad does this in part by integrating a web browser into the client, which makes it easy to look at articles and links that friends send over Twitter. You can also open up your favorite pages and RSS readers like Google’s. Twitepad also supports Instapaper, which makes it that much better for users who…
