Where Can I Get Telescope Mirrors For Really Cheap?

For earth science, i have to make a telescope and i cant find any mirrors. (im making a cassegranian or something telescope). i need help! theyre so expensive. i only have a budget of like 20 bucks.

This is not a realistic project, and your teacher should not have assigned it. Making a Cassegrain reflector is too complex for a high school student, and a $20 budget is totally ridiculous!
Telescope mirrors are ground and polished to an extremely high level of accuracy, a fraction of the thickness of a human hair. So they don’t come cheap. Cassegrain telescopes require _two_ precision mirrors, one convex and one concave, carefully matched to each other. The cheapest mass produced Cassegrain telescopes cost at least a couple of hundred dollars and, believe it or not, the parts are even more expensive because _nobody_ but highly experienced telescope makers make their own Cassegrain telescopes. Telescope makers only make Cassegrains after years of experience making Newtonian reflectors.
Most in-state community colleges are very inexpensive and you can attend for less than 1,000 a semester in tuition (depending on your location in the US).
In-state universities are very reasonable at less than 3,000 a semester (6,000 a year) for tuition and fees. THAT is awesome.
Unless you have that much money laying around…..$36,000 a year is pretty laughable.
Don't borrow that much money per year to attend that school… you'll never move on into being self supporting and will start out your life with crushing debt… 36K X 4 years = 144,000 and payments WAY more than any new grad can afford… 1700 a month!!! yikes! Unless you are going to harvard or yale, a month after you get that first "real job" after college, your boss isn't going to remember where you got your degree from, just if you are doing your job.
Dorm vs apartment would depend on the cost of the dorms vs the cost of the local apartments. Housing costs vary GREATLY depending on the location. This would be a great project for you to find out and can be done easily on the internet.
Run the numbers for 2 schools and compare tuition, room, board, for on and off campus for an in state school and an out of state school and your local community college living at home. Don't forget to calculate how much debt you and your parents would need to take on and for the 36K a year school be sure your parents are willing to pay or cosign for you because you can't get this much money in loans on your own.

You can get Pentax, Olympus, Minolta, Nikon or Canon, just to name a few, in good working condition for about 75$ to $100 and depending upon which lenses the class necessitates, you can get lenses for them also inexpensively. Your whole setup will cost less than $200

I highly recommend cooksillustrated.com. you can subscribe online or to the print magazine. not only does it have recipes but lots of tips and pictures to help you learn to cook better. they also do lots of product testing and reviews so you can make better informed decisions when purchasing ingredients and equipment. Telescopes generally fall into three catagories. Refractors, reflectors, and catadioptrics.
Refractors use lenses. Lenses work by collecting "bending" light by a phenomena called refraction. Reflectors, on the other hand, have an open front with a small mirror mounted near the front in the middle of the tube, and a large mirror mounted in the back. The large mirror in the back collects the light and focuses it to the secondary mirror up front, which bounces it into the eyepiece.
Catadioptrics, light schmidt cassagrains, have generally short tubes, a large mirror in the back, and a glass plate up front with a round area in the middle, which is where the secondary mirror is mounted. They work in a similar fashion to reflectors but the specifics are a little different.
For any telescope, the operating principals are generally the same.
1. Take the cover off.
2. Put in the lowest powered eyepiece…this is your 25mm one.
3. Point the telescope at a ground based object in the distance.
4. Looking through the view finder, adjust it using the adjustment screws on it's bracket to get it to be pointing at the same object you see in the eyepiece.
5. Put in a higher powered eyepiece and repeat.
6.Put the lowest powered eyepiece back in.
Once you've aligned the viewfinder properly you can try pointing the telescope at something inthe sky. I'd start with the moon, and then try a bright planet like Mars.
How to tell eyepiece strengths. Eyepieces are listed by their focal lengths. The largest number is the lowest power, and should be the eyepiece which you will get more use out of. The higher powered eyepiece you use, the more difficult it will be to get a good image because you magnify the atmosphere more, you approach the limits of the physical capabilities of your telescope's optics, and the motion of the Earth becomes far more apparent, making it difficult to keep things in your field of view long enough. They are also generally not very comfortable to look through.
